Chicago PR Agency, rapidly growing and nationally recognized, specializing in corporate communications, seeks VP/Senior Associate for client relations, media relations and writing. Clients in wide range of industries, from small companies to Fortune 100. Agency’s work is sixty percent business and financial media relations, forty percent employee, issues and crisis communications. Involved in all areas of firm’s work, including media relations, corporate positioning, employee/labor communications, and crisis/issues management. Firm has fast-paced, non-hierarchical, collaborative structure that recognizes excellence. Reports to President. Relocation available.
New business necessitates new hire. Immediate need.
Qualifications:
5 years’ experience in PR at minimum. At higher level, will consider candidates with extensive PR agency experience. Prior PR agency a must, with demonstrated successful media placements. Local and national media relationships a plus. Excellent oral and written communications required. Proven ability to lead accounts and mentor junior staff. Must understand how to think strategically and at a high level for planning and crisis communications purposes, as well as craft appropriate messages in a crisis situation.
Responsibilities:
Four key areas of responsibility: client and team management, writing, media relations and business development.
Client and team management: day-to-day client contact for multiple accounts. Provide sound and strategic counsel to clients. As team lead, delegate assignments, clarify issues of strategy and direction, and ensure all deadlines are met. Use critical thinking and problem solving skills to devise new strategies, troubleshoot issues and bring new ideas to light. Work with account team to develop and implement plans. Direct multi-faceted communications projects, including working with outside partners. Correspond regularly with client on all facets of account work. Set, oversee and track budgets. Oversee development of invoicing process. As a mentor to junior staff, maintain positive, professional outlook and contribute to beneficial working environment. Ensure associates have appropriate challenges, effective guidance and sufficient resources with well-balanced workloads. Determine staffing needs and participate in hiring and performance review process.
Writing: manage development of media, corporate/employee communications and crisis materials including press releases, bylines, speeches, etc. Key writer for new business proposals, presentations and RFPs. Oversee development of strategic communications plans and materials for clients. Provide feedback on internal and client materials, and ensure that all are proofread and checked for accuracy.
Media Relations: cultivate relationships with appropriate media contacts. Participate in and oversee firm’s media relations activities, including monitoring coverage, pitching stories, conducting research, coordinate interviews, coach spokespeople, and serve as spokesperson where required. Help clients plan for potential media crises and enact plans immediately when necessary.
Business and Professional Development: frequently participates in/presents during new business pitches. With team, identify potential new clients, conduct preliminary research and write introductory materials. Seek opportunities to leverage existing relationships, expand into new areas and promote firm.

Qualifications:
3-5 years’ experience needed. Must have prior PR agency experience, 1½ years at minimum. Position equivalent to a Senior AE at other firms. Excellent oral and written communications a must. Demonstrated successful media placements. Growth opportunity for candidates who volunteer for assignments, pitch in as needed.
Responsibilities:
Sixty percent business and financial media relations; forty percent employee, issues and crisis communications. Associate involved in client relations, writing, media relations, research and administrative tasks.
-Client Relations: provide strategic counsel, ideas and solutions for client issues. Work with four to six clients, meet daily deadlines by prioritizing deliverables, schedule meetings and calls, work with outside vendors to deliver added value, and facilitate media training and brainstorming sessions. Play integral role to ensure client teams run smoothly.
-Writing: write press releases, fact sheets, bios, reports and briefs. Advanced candidates will write more complex documents, including new business proposals, speeches, award entries and communications plans.
-Media Relations: understand news cycle, identify appropriate publications and contacts, develop creative pitches and follow up to ensure results. Coordinate and prepare clients for media interviews, collect media coverage and distribute to team.
- Research: use Bacon’s, Factiva, Google, Lexis-Nexis, and other Internet search tools, analyze and identify themes, monitor research and competitive activity to help team understand marketplace.
- Administration: create monthly invoices and reports, manage account budgets.

Chicago trade show and management firm seeks Media Relations Manager to generate media attention in national, regional and local press. Company is in growth mode within a very competitive business climate. Department is structured as an internal PR agency with client relationships. Reports to SVP, Marketing Communications.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field; 3-5 years’ experience in public relations. Demonstrated success with media pitching and establishing relationships across media types. Excellent oral and written communications necessary. Able to work independently within a team structure, client-service focus and attention to detail. Must be organized and responsible for tracking own progress. Candidate must thrive in fast paced, high output environment and give 125% every day. Experience in home furnishings a plus.
Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain media relations efforts for various events. Write and distribute news releases, fact sheets, and other appropriate materials. Pitch to local and national publications on an ongoing basis. Develop strategic media plans for recurring events.
Respond to general press inquiries. Coordinate dedicated press events and press rooms at other events. With marcom department, develop online press materials.
Monitor media coverage and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts.
