JOB DESCRIPTION:
Uses Microsoft SQL Server database architecture knowledge to provide database administration expertise. Lead DBA responsible for the design, installation, application testing and support, production staging, implementation planning, and integration of approximately 30 SQL Server 2000/2005 Enterprise Clusters managing up to 150TB of data. Work with team to develop strategies and select tools for data migration to support application implementations/integration and upgrades. Performs capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning, backup/recovery techniques, and problem dissemination and resolution. Provides ongoing maintenance and support. Assists in the formulation of customer IT overall plans and objectives by providing advice and counsel to management concerning the database technology and developments that affect those systems being considered for the database environment. Determines structural and storage requirements for the development of databases through systems analysis and design to ensure the most efficient customer database. Ensures database security by establishing data access and modification rights of all IT customers through the utilities provided within the database. Determines the standards and strategies for accessing the databases via programs, on-line query languages, report generators, or other access technologies to ensure consistency and efficiency. Develops and maintains database programming standards and naming conventions to ensure consistency.
Required Skills:
Minimum of seven years as a production database administrator with relational databases. Must have extensive hands on experience with MS SQL Enterprise Servers on a Windows Server 2003 Cluster platform. Must understand logical/physical data modeling and have strong design and architectural skills. Thorough understanding of all database processes, utilities, and functions associated with the assigned RDBMS. Database required skills include creating stored procedures, triggers, views, tables and system optimization. Thorough knowledge of SQL Reporting and SQL Analysis Services. Good knowledge and practical implementation of SQL Security features. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and possess a consultative approach to problem solving. Other duties as assigned. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance is required.
Desired Skills:
Experience with SQL Server 2005. Experience in various Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS).
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field and seven years of experience as a development and production database administrator. Microsoft MCDBA certification is desired and MCSE is a plus.
