The Senior Director of Marketing reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Vice President, LEAD; Vice President, SEED; Vice President, RALLY; Vice President, Development; and the Chief Financial Officer. He or she will be responsible for developing and implementing integrated and comprehensive approaches to marketing, public relations and communication that supports the KaBOOM! LEAD, SEED and RALLY program activities.

The Senior Director, Marketing will also work closely with the senior management team to ensure the consistency of the KaBOOM! external approach with its corporate partners and other funders. This individual will be responsible for managing the external presence and positioning of the KaBOOM! brand. This position oversees all aspects of the marketing, public relations and communications programs, including development, implementation, and effectiveness assessment.

This individual will be charged with developing and managing budgets that provide tight oversight of finances and overlay all activities of the Marketing organization

Currently reporting to this person will be a staff of six in three separate departments:
• Brand Marketing
• Communications
• Design

Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing:
• Develop and update as needed overall KaBOOM! marketing strategy
• Review and revise the KaBOOM! overall marketing and communications plan as appropriate, and manage implementation of the plan with an eye toward effective use of resources.
• Proactively manage the KaBOOM! brand, leveraging co-branding and licensing opportunities.
• Prepare / manage all communications, public relations messages and collateral materials to consistently articulate the KaBOOM! mission, and to support (and expand) the reach of the KaBOOM! LEAD, SEED and ADVOCATE strategies. Work closely with the Web portal team to ensure effective and consistent messaging.
• Expand the reach of KaBOOM! by leveraging the abilities of the Marketing organization and identifying new targets for marketing messages.
• Establish new distribution and communication channels that will include media partnerships.
• Work effectively with funding partners to manage and set realistic expectations for marketing.
• Able to ensure strong presence of KaBOOM! in combined marketing campaigns with existing and potential funding organizations.

Team Leadership and Management:
• Attract, develop and retain high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control and performance.
• Analyze existing marketing and communications functions. Work with the team and senior managers to define strategic imperatives and develop appropriate business models for SEED and RALLY that will support the Going to Scale (GTS) plan and achieve sustainability for each strategy.
• Review current budget processes, related to Marketing, then develop and implement improvements, providing a model for budget management and financial oversight, instilling a sense of financial accountability.
• Responsible for the effective implementation of corporate marketing strategies that include direct response, print, television, presence marketing, online/offline marketing, events, etc. Determine the marketing plans needed to strengthen marketing efforts that support the strategic initiatives and overall mission and vision of KaBOOM!

Essential Functions

The employee must have the ability to maintain acceptable standards of office conduct; the ability to handle stress, get along with others, and work in a cooperative and team oriented manner. The employee must have computer skills and the ability to type on a computer. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds. Office days may involve sitting at desk, using computer for 10-12 hours. Other job tasks will require movement around the office.

Occasional travel is required.

Qualifications:
• Proven experience developing new relationships with corporate sponsors/clients or customers, that has lead to multiple deal closures and deep, long-term relationships.
• Effective and strong communicator, as well as problem-solver; able to balance tension between sponsor/client expectations and organizational capabilities and results.
• Relationship-builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence” and to liaise with a wide range of internal and external constituents.
• High energy, maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications’ discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels. Highly collaborative style.
• This position requires exceptional verbal and written communication and editing skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with people. The ability to understand and organize information, and to write about or talk extemporaneously on that information, is essential.
• Highly analytic with the ability to integrate the activities of various and related functional areas for seamless execution and external communications.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing a successful sales management program.
• Commitment to the KaBOOM! mission.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and comfortable with the use of electronic mail and the Internet to meet daily responsibilities.
• Finally, a strong ethical character capable of handling confidential and financial information is critical.

Education and/or Experience:
B.A. a minimum, MBA a plus with at least 6 years of demonstrated success establishing, building and managing a marketing organization, including budget oversight for those organizations, in an entrepreneurial environment with multiple constituents, beneficiaries and/or clients.
